Thank you for your interest in UPenn Badminton Club! This post will contain all the information you need to join UPenn Badminton, as well as other information regarding UPenn Badminton.
To start this off, we would like to introduce ourselves. We are Michelle Deng (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Stephanie Tang (email@example.com), the two co-presidents who will be running the club this year. We will be your main point of contact.
Competitive vs Recreational Team
Our club consists of two teams: the recreational team and the competitive team. The main differences between these two teams are time commitment and skill level.
- We will allot 2 hours per week either on Sundays or Mondays
- All skill levels
- No time commitment – come and play whenever you have time
- Racket rentals and shuttlecocks will be provided
- Will have practice 3 times a week on Sunday/Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays
- Requires try-outs
- Must show up to practice at least 1-2 times a week, unless you have talked to us about your situation. Attendance will be recorded at every practice.
- Allowed to attend tournaments (there will at least one tournament each semester) and represent Penn at other venues
Everyone who decides to join UPenn Badminton must pay dues. Dues are $50 per undergraduate student per semester. If you wish to pay per session (2 hours of play), dues are $10 per session. Dues will cover membership, shuttlecocks, and free racket rentals (if needed).
We are offering two sessions on September 7th (Wednesday) from 9-11pm and September 9th (Friday) from 7-11pm for open gym. Open gym is a great time for people to come and get a feel of what playing badminton at Penn is like. This is also a great chance to practice for those who wish to try-out for the competitive team. To make everything go smoother, we will be assigning time slots. Please only come in during your slot. Please fill out this form if you are interested in signing up for a slot.
If you are interested in joining the competitive team, you will be required to try out. Try outs will be held on September 11 (Sunday) from 6-8pm and September 12 (Monday) from 9-11pm. Once again, we will be assigning time slots to maximize efficiency. Please only come in during your slot. Please fill out this form if you are interested in trying out.
Try outs results will be announced on September 13 (Tuesday) via email. A separate Facebook group will be made as well.
In addition to being a player, there are also 5 leadership positions available.
- Finance Officer
- Marketing Officer
- Social Events Officer
- 2 Practice Facilitators
These positions are open to both recreational and competitive team members, as well as freshmen. Please fill out thisform if you are interested.
Please let us know if you have any other questions! We hope to see everyone at open gym!
